> About Us > What We Do
InspireHealth

Our goal is simple – to provide the best care possible for people living with a diagnosis of cancer, and we will work together with you, your family doctor and oncologist.  All our services, programs and classes are completely free of charge.  No referral is required.

Our Clinical Services are provided by a team of physicians, nutritionists, clinical counsellors and exercise therapists. We have experience providing guidance on healthful diet changes, stress reduction and emotional counseling, decision making, exercise, and personal coaching.

We offer our services for free. Our patients and their supports can select from an extensive selection of programs and services. Our signature two-day LIFE Program or the online LIFE Webinar series provide the foundation.  Consultations with our health professionals support your health, answer your questions and provide you with the information you need to make decisions about your health.  Our classes provide ongoing support and knowledge, and consultations with our health professionals.

The Benefits of Supportive Cancer Care

We offer options for better health and a better recovery. Growing scientific evidence confirms that stress reduction, eating a healthy diet, exercise and a positive support network can substantially improve health and well-being for people living with cancer and their supports.

We can provide you with the knowledge, tools and services to support your overall health during and after cancer treatment. Our doctors value standard cancer treatments, and will work with you, your family doctor and oncologist to provide the best cancer care possible.

How Our Care Approach Is Different – Cancer vs. Person-Based Model

Cancer-Based Model – From the perspective of the cancer-based model, the patient rarely plays active role in their treatment or recovery. Since the focus is on the cancer, little effort is expended to support patients in exploring the benefits of healthful diet, exercise, spirituality and emotional support or other methods to enhance the patient’s well-being. Focusing solely on the cancer can leave patients feeling disempowered and unsure about how to contribute to their own health and well-being.

Person-Based Model – In this model, the person plays a fundamental role in their own health and well-being. Although surgery, radiation and chemotherapy can play a very important role in treating the cancer, it is the person and their health – mind, body and spirit – that is the focus of care at InspireHealth.

Person Based Model for website

“InspireHealth was somewhere to go, somewhere to call – it gave me what was missing when I was going through treatment. I was won over by their quality of care – I was blown away.”

Our March 2021 Research Update focuses on the review and analysis of the existing research related to resistance (strength) exercise, and its impact on lymphedema among breast cancer survivors. The authors analyze data from 29 studies as well as perform additional statistical analyses of the data.

We live in a forward-facing world. Things like w We live in a forward-facing world.

Things like walking, holding a steering wheel or book, eating, scrolling our devices, and interacting with others, especially virtually, are all taking place in front of us.

It's in these moments that we can forget about good posture. Slumped shoulders and neck strain are a sign for us to be more mindful of how we balance our bodies.

Movements and stretches are needed throughout the day to give our bones, muscles, and joints proper care and attention. Standing up every 20 minutes to shake off our sitting posture and opening up through our chest will allow us to release stagnant energy in our body.

Our muscles, bones and joints will thank us.

Sometimes, we need a reminder to notice and apprec Sometimes, we need a reminder to notice and appreciate the simple things we have in our lives.

Take a moment to look around your home for the “simple” things that add value to your life, but that you may take for granted. Perhaps it’s sipping from your favourite tea mug, the smell of a beeswax candle, your warmest slippers, or your dishwasher.

Simple things are so precious if we pause to hold gratitude for them. For example, “I am grateful for my coziest blanket. It keeps me nice and warm every night".

Now, take a few more moments to journal your thoughts of gratitude for the "simple" things in your life that bring you warmth.
