Historically, conventional cancer treatment has been based on a "tumour-oriented model", which seeks to cure cancer through treatments that focus on directly attacking the tumour with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, as illustrated in figure 1 below. Since substantial expertise is required to prescribe appropriate treatments, the oncologist prescribes, to the patient, the recommended treatment regime.

There is growing evidence that the things you can do yourself to support your own healing (e.g., nutrition, exercise) are as important as the conventional treatments you take.
With recent research demonstrating the benefits of nutrition, exercise and supporting the mind, body, spirit and immune system in healing, a new cancer paradigm is emerging as illustrated in figure 2 below.

Every effort is made to enhance the patient's well-being and health and support the mind, body, spirit and immune system in the healing process. Personal empowerment and self-care are honoured and supported, and participants are encouraged to explore options and make choices that are right for them.
Recent research suggests that more than 100,000 new cases of cancer could be prevented each year in North America, and three-quarters of deaths from breast and colorectal cancers could be avoided –all by a single vitamin.
