The Quilt Dinner & Auction is a “spirit-raising visual celebration supporting people living with cancer”.
September 15, 2009 - The third annual Kamloops Quilt Dinner and Auction is scheduled for Thursday, October 29th at 6:00 at Thompson River University. Proceeds from the auction are being used toward the formation of the Kamloops Integrated Cancer Care Program under the direction of Vancouver’s InspireHealth.
The October 29th evening offers dinner, entertainment, and guests will have the opportunity to bid on 37 unique and inspirational quilts designed by artist from across Canada. Guests will be invited to meet and mingle with community leaders who share similar visions of a healthy community. There will also be a variety of silent auction items, something for everyone!
Early this month Dr. Teresa Clarke of InspireHealth presented a well attended series of events in Kamloops for cancer patients, health professionals and the public designed to expand cancer patient access and educate more health professionals about integrated cancer care.
Integrated cancer care encourages patients to become more proactive about their health and healing by using simple, evidence-based lifestyle approaches such as healthy nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, supplements and emotional support to complement conventional cancer treatments.
Kamloops Quilt Chairperson, Lynda MacKenzie of Interior Savings Insurance noted “While research funds are being secured at an overwhelming rate, education and support is the silent healer that will empower friends and families to do the simple and inexpensive things to prevent cancer and reduce recurrence.”
