Donations

Planned Giving

What is Planned Giving? Planned gifts are a variety of charitable giving methods that allow you to express your personal values by integrating your charitable, family and financial goals. Planned gifts can be made with cash, but many planned gifts are made by donating assets such as real estate, stocks, art pieces, or business interests; the possibilities are endless. Charitable planned gifts can provide valuable tax benefits. The most frequently-made planned gifts are bequests, made through your will. Other popular planned gifts include charitable gift annuities, life insurance policies, and endowments.

Bequests

A bequest is the disposition of property by will. Bequests are vitally important to InspireHealth's ongoing work, research and progress in the care for people living with cancer. When you include InspireHealth in your Will, you can be assured that your gift will be used to support InspireHealth's ongoing patient programs and services as well as supporting important research in integrative health care. There are several methods by which you can leave funds in your Will to InspireHealth, including: Gifts of Residue, Fixed Sum Gifts and Gifts of the Whole Estate.

A Bequest is for you if:

  1. You want to help ensure the future of InspireHealth.
  2. Long-term planning is more important to you than an immediate income-tax deduction.
  3. You want the flexibility of a gift commitment that doesn't affect your current cash flow.

Charitable Gift Annuities

There are many different methods of setting aside a portion of your assets of your estate to benefit both you and InspireHealth. Each method of gift planning can be individually designed to suit your needs as a donor. One of the most popular of these planned gifts is the charitable gift annuity. A gift annuity allows a donor to receive regular payments for life, with tax benefits, while at the same time benefiting InspireHealth. Charitable gift annuities offer a distinct advantage over investment income, which is taxed at a maximum rate.

Life Insurance Policies

Life insurance policies increase the financial security of your loved ones. The same principle applies to InspireHealth. Your gift of life insurance ensures that InspireHealth can continue to deliver its many programs and services. Giving a donation to InspireHealth through the gift of a life insurance policy is both discreet and straightforward. For manageable yearly premiums, the donor is able to make a substantial gift to the InspireHealth. There are no legal or administrative fees associated with life insurance donations. They are separate from your estate and do not affect any inheritance you wish to leave to heirs.

There are two ways to give to the InspireHealth via a life insurance policy. One way is for donors to sign over an existing policy when it is no longer needed for its original purpose. The other method is for the donor to purchase a new policy, naming InspireHealth as sole owner and beneficiary.

Existing Policy
When a donor signs over an existing policy to InspireHealth, he or she names the Society as sole owner and beneficiary. The cash surrender value of that policy is considered a charitable donation and is tax deductible.

New Policy
A donor can buy a new life insurance policy, naming the InspireHealth as sole owner and beneficiary. The premiums paid are deductible for income tax purposes. For more information about giving a donation to InspireHealth through a life insurance policy, contact your financial or legal advisor and/or InspireHealth.

Endowments

An endowment gives the donor the opportunity to give a gift that will continue to provide revenues into the future. An endowment is a contribution where the principal is held in perpetuity and the income or interest from the principal is used for the purposes as outlined in an endowment agreement. The purposes for which the interest may be spent can be very general in nature or restricted to a specific area. Endowments do not allow the trustees to draw from the principal, unless outlined in the agreement. InspireHealth offers four types of Endowment funds: General Endowment Fund, Designated Endowment Fund, Named Endowment Fund, and Named Designated Fund.
