We are excited to announce the opening of InspireHealth’s new Victoria Regional centre. This centre will now serve Victoria, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands with its innovative integrative cancer care programs and services.
We officially opened our new Victoria Centre on October 13th, 2011. On behalf of Minister of Health Michael de Jong, MLA Ida Chong (Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development) attended and opened our new centre.
Dr. Ron Puhky, MD who has supported cancer patients at InspireHealth’s Vancouver Centre for the last 4 years, is leading our new Victoria centre. He will be joined by Dr. Ron Reznick, MD as well as an additional physician, for whom we are still recruiting.
InspireHealth is a world leader in integrative cancer care. Since 1997, our team of physicians and health care professionals has provided integrative care to over 6,000 cancer patients.
We are excited to be opening four new centres in BC including this new Victoria Regional Centre, as well as starting a virtual program to support British Columbians living with cancer in rural areas of the province. We are also expanding our Vancouver Centre.
Dr. Ron Puhky received his medical degree at McGill University in 1971. In 1976 he co-founded the Victoria Holistic Health Centre and began studying acupuncture in the UK and subsequently in China. He was a founding member of the American Holistic Medical Association in 1978, and of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. He has been a visiting lecturer in the UCLA Medical Acupuncture program, and is the co- director of the Five Element Acupuncture Training Program in San Diego, now in its 20th year. From 2004 to 2006 he was the president of the Association of Complementary and Integrative Physicians of BC.
Deeply committed to the natural environment and its critical importance for all healing, he has lived on and operated with his family a certified organic farm on Salt Spring Island since the mid-1970s. Ron has written and taught extensively about how to reactivate the healing response in individuals facing critical illness, and is delighted to join the medical staff at InspireHealth. His special interest over the years has been the integrated care and support of individuals with cancer. Ron also continues his practice on Salt Spring.
Our Victoria Centre is led by a team of medical doctors and dedicated support staff. We also work closely with allied professionals, such as naturopaths, nutritionists, massage therapists, counselors and acupuncturists. The InspireHealth team uses an evidence-based approach applying leading-edge immune system research to optimize cancer healing and recovery. Our approach combines nutrition, exercise, and emotional and immune support with standard cancer treatment.
The programs team is working to establish programs and classes at InspireHealth Victoria as soon as possible.
Yoga and meditation classes will start mid November. Yoga classes will initially be held twice per week and meditation classes once per week.
Our signature LIFE program will be available in Victoria starting in the first quarter of 2012. Until then we ask members to participate in our LIFE Program in Vancouver. Our Vancouver schedule can be found here.
To acknowledge our current process of establishing the full complement of classes (e.g. Yoga, meditation, cooking, relaxation, support groups) and programs (e.g. LIFE Program), our first year membership fee of $445 was adjusted for our new InspireHealth Victoria members to be valid for two (2) years. The membership can then be renewed for $95 per year thereafter.
